In 2015, eduVPN started as a project at the Dutch research and education network SURF. SURF continues to play a leading role in the project, but now eduVPN is deployed by at least one institution in the following countries: Albania, Australia, Belgium, Chile, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, Laos, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, The Netherlands, Uganda, Ukraine, USA and Zambia!
The Commons Conservancy
eduVPN is currently a program under the Commons Conservancy, a non-for-profit foundation focusing on free and open source projects. It is also part of the GÉANT project (GN4-3) which is co-funded by the European Union.
It has received funding from the Vietsch Foundation, RIPE, NORDUnet, NGI trust and the NLnet Foundation.
